According to Boston 25 News, the fatal collision occurred at approximately 10:45 p.m. on Route 28. Samir and his young daughter were occupants of a Honda HR-V that was stopped at a red traffic light when an Acura MDX traveling at a high rate of speed collided with it. The Honda subsequently became engulfed in flames.

First responders and a Good Samaritan attempted to rescue the occupants, but a male and a child died at the scene. A family member later identified the victims to Boston 25 as Samir Nali and his 8-year-old granddaughter, whose name the report spells Kashmira Naili.

Authorities have charged 21-year-old Matthew Sweeney of Paxton in connection with the fatal collision. Boston 25 reports that he faces charges including felony motor vehicle homicide, operating under the influence and operating to endanger.
